Beware Of Those Doggone Self-Driving Cars

In a series of bizarre incidents, several dog owners have reported leaving their pets in the car for just a few minutes, only to return and find their vehicle had driven off without them.

One such story occurred in the parking lot of a local grocery store in California, where a man left his golden retriever in his running car while he ran inside to grab a few items. He returned to find his car missing and frantically called the police, who were able to locate it a few blocks away. To their surprise, they found the golden retriever behind the wheel, with his paw on the accelerator.

In another instance, a woman in Florida left her Chihuahua in her car while she went to the bank. When she came out, her car was nowhere to be seen. After calling the police, they located her car in a nearby pond, with the Chihuahua still sitting in the driver’s seat, seemingly unharmed.

While these stories may seem comical, they serve as a warning to pet owners to be vigilant about leaving their animals in cars, especially with the engine running. Not only is it dangerous for the animal to be left unattended in a vehicle, but it can also pose a risk to others if the car were to drive off on its own.

Experts recommend that if you must leave your pet in the car, turn off the engine and remove the keys from the ignition. Additionally, ensure that the windows are cracked open to allow for ventilation and that the animal has access to water and shade.

These incidents also highlight the remarkable intelligence and adaptability of dogs, who were able to operate a complex piece of machinery on their own. While it may be amusing to imagine a dog behind the wheel, it is important to remember that these situations can have serious consequences and should be avoided.
