Veteran shot in neck on Savannah’s Southside proposes to girlfri

A local veteran who was shot in the neck while letting his dog out on Savannah’s Southside is still recovering.

Michael Gibson was shot on Marsh Edge Lane near Coffee Bluff Monday morning. He suffered serious injuries, including the possibility of being paralyzed for life. Friday night, Gibson proposed to his girlfriend of two years, and of course, she said yes.

“Michael made it perfect,” Felicia Walker Hayes said. “He was able to mouth to me, ‘Will you marry me.’ He was able to write it on his whiteboard, and he put the ring on my finger.”

A home and car were also damaged by gunfire during the incident. Detectives with Savannah Police are asking anyone who lives within a one-mile radius of the Marsh Edge neighborhood to look at their surveillance camera video from around sundown Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday, and look for any suspicous activity. If you see anything that looks strange, call police right away.
