The Savannah Police Department held its annual Police Memorial Ceremony on Wednesday, May 16. The ceremony is held every year to honor local law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.

Since 1968, 54 officers from the Savannah area have lost their lives while on the job. The latest was in 2016 when Deputy Commander Patrick Carothers was fatally wounded.

Each year, Savannah PD, as well as other surrounding agencies, gather at the Police Memorial Monument outside the Savannah Police Department Headquarters on Habersham Street, to honor these officers and their families.
