(CNN) — A man in Florida said his wireless headphones exploded shortly after he removed them from his ears.

Jason Colon claims his wireless Apple AirPods exploded while he was in a gym in Saint Petersburg, Fla. He told WFLA he noticed smoke coming out of the headphones while they were in his ears. He put them aside and went to call for help.

But when he came back, the headphones had exploded, he said.

“I don’t know what would have happened to my ears. My earlobes could have been burnt,” Colon told WFLA. “That’s the craziest thing I ever went through.”

He said he didn’t witness the explosion, but Apple did say they are investigating the incident and will reach out to Colon.
